Meet the Instructor

Natalie McKechnie, OTR/L is a licensed occupational therapist and a piano teacher in Boulder, CO. Between 2005 and 2011, she completed graduate degrees in occupational therapy from Boston University and piano performance & pedagogy from University of Wisconsin. During these programs, she taught piano lessons to children, teenagers, and adults both privately and through various schools and institutions.

While completing her occupational therapy degree, she became interested in pediatrics and started teaching piano to children and teenagers with developmental disabilities. Natalie also focused on injury prevention and upper extremity and hand injuries as these injuries related to playing the piano. She attended various intensive workshops on injury prevalence and prevention among performing artists. In 2014, she established the Piano Therapy program in an effort to make piano lessons more individualized and available to students of all ages and abilities. As an occupational therapist, she understands how to adapt piano lessons and the environment to fit to students’ physical, developmental, and emotional needs. Through this teaching method, all piano students are able to successfully learn how to play the piano in a way that tailors to their strengths and weaknesses as a person and as a pianist. 161407
