Music Together is a group music fundamentals program.

Meet the Instructor

Music Together of Boulder was founded by licensed Center Director, Jane Simms Roche & has been serving the Boulder area since 1998. She is a Certified Vocal Coach, studied music theatre, and child psychology at the University of Northern Colorado and CU Boulder, and has been singing, teaching, and playing piano professionally for over 30 years. In addition, she has been a member of several local performance bands and enjoys giging from time to time. She thrives on improvisation in her jazz singing and thus loves the classroom where the atmosphere is so rich for on the spot music making! Jane was the first to bring Music Together to the Boulder area back in 1998 and is grateful that the program has been such an integral part of so many Boulder families lives. Through her 17 years with Music Together, Jane has taught and included many families with children with special needs.

About

Music Together is developmentall approparite and research based. The classes teach music  through playful activities in mixed-age classes. Using this format, young children learn from the powerful role model of parents/caregivers who are actively making music. The music in the classes are chosen from a collection of American folk, world music, Spanish songs, and many original tunes. The goal of Music Together is to nurture a community of families making Music Together!

Classes Offered

All classes are group classes with 6 to 12 participants.

Boulder Classes

Mixed Age Class: This class follows the recommendations of child development researchers-grouping children of a variety of ages because this fosters natural, family-style learning.  Children of mixed ages participate at their own level by singing, moving, chanting, listening, and exploring with musical instruments throughout the 45 minute class.

Intergenerational Class: This class includes elders that also sign up to attend the music class each week and form community with you and your child(ren). They foster new, important relationships with the “Grandmas” and “Grandpas” and help parents feel they are doing something important for their community as well as for their children.

Big Kids Class: This class helps your child take the next step in music development by blending the elements of Music Together that parents and children love with new activities, skills and challenges that are developmentally appropriate for 5-7 yr olds.

Supportive Family Classes: This class is tailored to providing children with special needs the opportunity to engage in music by singing, moving, chanting, listening, and exploring with musical instruments. Not yet offered.
